Design Excellence

My career

I have always been interested in the virtual computer design world. I do think that learning design techniques can help me get closer to my goals which is to design for visual effect project or video games. I am pursuing my dream to become a professional 3D modeller and on the way I do think that I have to look at so many things in a designers point of view.

It is important for me to be able to take simple elements and make extraordinary products (in my case virtual illustration).

I constantly try to find ways to improve my skills in visualizing new ideas for my self and others and on the way I constantly try to prove my skills to professionals and those who know the art of 3d modelling to be able to get involve with their works.

I believe even thought industrial design might not be the precise area that i would like to have my career in, it will put me in the right state of thinking ability. I hope industrial design can lead me to the place where I, very keenly, want to get to in life.

On the way I try my best to get advised from professionals such as my tutors to show me the path to my goals. No one like them who have been in industry and have worked professionally as virtual or real world designers can help me illuminate my path along the way.

Meanwhile I am looking for opportunities to prove to people that I can work as a professional 3d modeller even in this young age and hopefully one day I will be able to fulfill that dream.

Video Reflection : Bill Moggridge: What is design?

Design is a really broad topic consist of almost everything that surrounds us. According to this video everything that humans have built from centuries ago in included in the history of design. Humans have complimented their design by looking back and building on their ancestors work and are pursuing the there goal of perfecting human's world using design.

Design could consist of coming with new ideas in different areas like fashion in teenage years or manipulating ways to ease the use of products or more broadly, objects that humans or even animals interact with daily.

Use of design not only can make so many things look better, but also it can make them more enjoyable and practical to use. Designers look for possibilities of  a variety of ideas to come up with products that can help to bring a better life to all or some part of society.

Design makes objects that we interact with something more than just a tool but something that belongs to our daily life and habits. A designer can take a boring one dimensional object and only works to something extraordinary that makes people have the need to use it because of the pleasure of its use.

We must study and learn design due to the important part that it plays in peoples daily life to give them the ability of take their life to the next level.

Video Reflection : Story of Stuff

This video promotes the idea of recycling and reusing. It reveals the true story behind the process of manufacturing a product. The price of the products we use daily are not only the money that we pay for them. The true price of the products that we use daily is the our planet's recourses, our peoples harbour and the planet's health.
By using non-recyclable products we are using all the resources present on earth for products that will not probably last very long. we have been using 35% of our recourses on earth during the last 100 years and if we continue this way without searching for solution our planet will soon be out of resources will be finished.
We are also currently using certain manufacturing methods that are harmful for to our own and other animals' health and existence. certain elements used in the production of our material have to be stoped from using or be replaced.
The solutions to these harms that we are causing to our planet is in our hands. We should replace non-recyclable materials we recyclable ones . one other solution is using energy sources that are renewable and non-pollutant such as using solar energy instead of burning fuels to generate the equivalent energy.
this video was a very illuminating source of information. It teaches designers to consider the idea of sustainability in their design process.

Video Reflection : David Kelley: Human centred design

This video talks is about searching for peoples needs and act accordingly. These need does not have to necessarily be the ones that people usually feel or complain about, these are the needs that people have but they are not aware of. For example people might not be aware that they could see them selves from all angles when they try on a new cloth but introducing  a solution to this problem can offer people a much easier life.
This video shows how we can think outside the box and use the technology to provide a better life for our selves. For example liquid crystal glasses make it easier for us to get approval about our choices while trying new cloths on in a shop. this happens while many of us might not know that some certain jobs can be done easier.
In design we must consider people and design for them. a great example could be using 3d scanners in shops in order to make purchase easier and faster for customers as well as raising the safety levels of the store. These ideas for example have been introduced to solve consumers  needs and have been brought to life by studying human's behaviour and response to different situations.
This video has been a very demonstrating and illuminating video due to the fact that it shows how design for humans should be done.

Video Reflection : Don Norman - Emotional Design

This video criticizes the way designers are currently approaching the idea of 'easy to use' design. It suggests that the neat look of the product should not trick us into believing that the product is well designed. For example a car with a touch screen sound like a great idea and design but it also can be too complicated and confusing and only can be figured out using a user manual. A good design should hardly need the use of user manual according to this video.
Another message that can be conveyed by this video is that designers are meant to look for the needs and adjust the technology to fulfil that need accordingly not vice versa. Often designers get the sense of excitement about use of a technology that they forget that the society that they are designing for might barely need the design they are coming up with. Only because a golden juicer can be built is not enough of a reason for its existence. A golden juicer might look attractive as an object but it hardly has any use.
Don norman also talks about a new design method considering the shape and interaction between the product and the users emotions. A good design should also be enjoyable to use. A mixture of these two elements only can make a good design and lack of one will bring flaw to the product.

Light Design - Rationale

Star Light Rationale
The light designed for this project is easy to manufacture, easy to assemble and fashionable. It consists of different sharpness and round edges to create a contrast in the geometry. The light bulb is positioned in the middle of the paper geometry and creates shadows on the floor and the roof of the place where the light is hanging from. The printed pattern inside the light makes the light look white when its off and have colored shapes on it when the light is turned on in the dark.
This light is easy to manufacture. It is made by cutting out two pieces of pentagon shapes out of the material which will have their edges attached together. The attachments can be made by any sort of glue which leaves the option for the product to be environmentally friendly open. It also uses most of each sheet of material during manufacture which minimizes the waste.
The assembly of this product is easily done. All that has to be done is the middle of the edges to be folded in and the light bulb to be inserted in. the assembly does not require any use of material or tools. This light also can be assembled on all sorts of lights including table lights and wall lights. This product also gives the consumer their own choice of light bulb due to the large size of it. The material will not change its shape over time and after numbers of assemble and de-assembling. Also the heat of the light will not effect the material because the minimum distance of the material to the light bulb is considered.

Beer Bottle Opener Rationale

This product is designed to open both twist top caps and normal beer bottle caps. It allows the used to open a large number of beer bottles easily and in a short time as well as giving them the pleasure of use.
The shape:
The shape of this product allows user to quickly open bottles with a little amount of force. The size and handles on the side increase the leverage therefore the force applied to the cab is increased dramatically. Also the three handles on the side increase the grip strength of the user and avoids the object to slip from the users hand once the object is wet ( the surface of the object will get wet as many bottles have been opened by the product.
The mechanism:
This product opens all different kinds of beer bottles from the same side of the product which makes the product unique. The user can put the twist top bottle caps between the teeth on the product and open the bottle or push the bottle cap through the teeth area and use the gap between the teeth and the inside cylindrical wall to open the normal capped bottles.
One other advantage of this product is that the bottle caps can be easily collected in comparison to other products in the market where the bottle cap flies away when the bottle is opened. This product keeps the cap inside the product after its collected then allows the user to tip them over in their hands. This way the after opening a large number of beer bottles there will be no need to recollect the beer bottles from the work space therefore working in the area would be more enjoyable.
